Warhawks Set Nine Personal-Records at McNeese Springtime Challenge

LAKE CHARLES, La. – With just under a month until the Sun Belt Championships, the ULM track & field program continued to improve its times as it set nine personal-records on Saturday at the McNeese Springtime Challenge.

Freshman Jeremy Harden grabbed third out of 43 competitors in the 100m with a personal-record time of 10.59 and sophomore Mark Demus took sixth with a personal-record of 10.65. Sophomore Andrew Tate followed it up with a personal-record in the 400m as he sprinted for a time of 21.83.

Sophomore Rondell Coleman turned in a second-place performance in the 400m hurdles as he registered a time of 54.18. Junior Silah Chumba also tallied a second-place score of 10:10.70 in the 3000m steeplechase.

The 800m saw freshman Vinnie Van Puyvelde cross the finish line in a personal-record time of 1:56.43 to finish top-five. Sophomore Dusan Makevic finished two spots behind at 1:56.87, while junior Hillary Kirwa placed top-10 at 1:59.75.

On the women’s side in sprints, junior Teona Glave zipped around the track in the 400m at a time of 57.39, a fourth-place finish and the best time by a Warhawk in the event this season. Sophomore Ke’Andrea Wilson recorded a top-10 finish in the 100m at 12.25, while freshman Alayna Wyre placed top-15 with a personal-record of 12.55.

The 4x100m relay team of Wilson, Wyre and sophomores Ariel Cain and Victoria Bowie posted a new season-best of 47.13 and finished top-five.

In the 400m hurdles, sophomore Brittany Miller set a new personal-record at 1:06.51 to take sixth. Sophomore Brianna Reid finished one spot behind at a season-best time of 1:07.75.

In jumps, freshman Brenda Czermak took second in the pole vault after matching her season-best of 3.35m. Sophomore Rychlend Martin-Horne brought home third-place in the high jump after clearing the bar at 1.57m.

In men’s jumps, sophomore Corey Wesley placed third in the long jump with a season-best mark of 7.26m.

In throws, sophomore Joey Womack launched a personal-record 59.96 in the javelin to take second, while sophomore Blaine Armstrong placed third at 52.95. Freshmen Jevaughn Shaw and Alton Clay both etched personal-records of 14.13 and 13.84m in the shot put, respectively. Shaw also recorded a personal-record of 52.09 in the discus to take fourth.

For the women, freshman Alexis Gordon notched a third-place toss of 45.81 in the discus. Freshman Mi’Ca Lowe also garnered a third-place showing with a 42.63m throw in the javelin.

ULM will be back in action next weekend when it splits up to send student-athletes to the UCA Open in Conway, Ark., and the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.
