Nicholls Track with a Strong Showing at Tulane Team Challenge

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Nicholls State University women's track and field team had impressive outing at the Tulane Team Challenge, with 11 finishing in the top ten.

Tessni Carruthers led the Colonels with a second place finish in the 1500 meter run, posting a time of 4:25.92, followed by Jackie White, who came in seventh with a time of 4:50.32.

Carruthers came up big in the 800 meter run as well, leading the Colonels with a time of 2:17.37 and placing fourth overall.  Ashley Johnson ran a 2:19.01 and finished 6th whileJackie White posted a 2:21.13, finishing seventh.

In the 400 meter hurtles, Rachante Colebrook took second with a 1:08.37 finish, followed by Beaunca Lewis who ran a 1:12.03 and finished fifth for Nicholls.

Quadri Newson took fifth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.59, and finished seventh in the 100 meter dash with a 12:36.

In field events, Jaimee Springer continued her steady performance in the javelin with a second place finish, throwing 42.75 meters, while Destiny Lemalle finished sixth in the long job with a 5.16 meter score.

The team will travel to Nacogdoches, Texas on Friday to take on the Skecher's Carl Knight Invitational.
