Nicholls Delivers a Strong Showing at the Texas Southern Relays

HOUSTON, Texas – The Nicholls State University women's track and field team had impressive outing at the Texas Southern Relays in Houston, with seven top-ten finishes, led by senior Jaimee Springer who brought home gold in women's javelin.

Springer's first place finish was her second individual gold medal in as many outings, with a throw of 148' 5''. She has now won 10 individual outdoor championships over her career with Nicholls.

Senior Jackie White led the Colonels on foot, placing fourth in the 800 meter with a time of 2:12.33, fewer than two seconds off of her personal record. Junior Tessni Carruthersplaced ninth in the event, posting a time of 2:15.09.

The Nicholls 1600 sprint medley relay team made up of freshman Dasia McCullum, junior Quadri Newson, junior Ashley Johnson and senior Jackie White came in at 4:11.51, placing sixth, while the 4 x 100 relay team of freshman Kyesha Thomas, freshman Kierranika Duncan, Johnson and McCullum, finished seventh, racing to a time of 48.83.  McCullum, Newson, Johnson, and sophomore Rachante Colebrook placed 10th in the 4 x 200 with a time of 1:43.88.

Rounding out the top-ten performances for the Colonels was Duncan, who finished 7th in the triple jump, reaching 37' 10.75''.

The team will travel to Nacogdoches, Texas on Saturday to take on the Skecher's Carl Knight Invitational.
