Weekend Preview: Christian Brothers Invite Highlights Weekend Action

The 2013 Louisiana XC season returns to action this weekend as teams from around the state travel to their respective meets to battle the clock and weather conditions.  Week 3 will bring three major meets (which we have on file at Louisiana Milesplit): The LSU XC Invitational in Baton Rouge, the Rummel/Chapelle meet in New Orleans, and the Christian Brothers meet in Abita Springs. With ranked teams present at each of these meets, it’s the Christian Brothers Invitational, hosted by St. Paul’s, that will highlight this weekend’s action.

Traditionally held at the Solomon Baptist Center in Loranger, Louisiana, this year’s meet has been moved to Money Hill, a gated community in Abita Springs, Louisiana.  In only a few short years, this meet has become one of the more competitive regular season races in the state (perhaps only behind the prestigious Catholic High or fast Walker Invites).

In it’s past, this invitational has hosted top teams from New Orleans and Baton Rouge who willingly crossed the lake or broke from their beloved high park to participate. Despite this year’s change in venue, the level of competition has not diluted one bit. With 7 top 10 ranked teams from Week 2 rankings, as well as a slew of individual ranked runners, this meet is sure to be a tough win. In the team race, it looks to be a St. Paul’s - John Curtis showdown. Will the wolves be able to hold off the the Fighting Pats despite having several runners out for ACT testing? In the girl’s race, will (#2) St. Joseph hold off a charge from closely ranked Dominican (#3)?  Freshman, Annie Hill, will be leading the SJA’s, making the individual race a throw down with Gabrielle Jennings, who happens to be undefeated in Louisiana XC competition for the last 4 years. On the men’s side, Will Zach Albright dominate the men’s race as many expect, or will John Curtis‘, Devin Keith, make an argument otherwise? With an 80% chance of rain this weekend, will conditions/competition in Abita be cooled, our predictions here at Louisiana Milesplit call for 100% HOT.
